Weekly goals

Standard

This week I want to focus in doing some bits in the flat.

Sort out Tobias’s clothes and put away anything that’s too small, I also want to make a list of anything we’re short of so I can have it in my bag when I’m out and about.  I also need to sort out his old toys and decide what I’m keeping and what I’m e-baying or donating to charity.

Rearrange the crockery cupboards I want to get some of these so I can free up so room and move my blender into a cupboard. I have also started using baskets to organise my cupboards which seems to be really helpful. I got these in several different sizes from Wilkinsons and will definitely be getting some more.

Spend at least 2 hours filing the piles of paper, I’ll probably do this while me and T watch a film. The sooner it’s done the sooner I can get rid of the ugly bookcase, I am fed up of moving piles around.

I also want to make a start sorting out what’s going under the bed – I want to make sure everything is washed again before it goes back away.

There’s lots of other bits but there my main goals, what are you planning this week?

To reduce debt

My credit card balance is lower than when I wrote my original post but there’s still a way to go with it.

To start emergency fund

Sunday Summary

Standard

So its the end of the 1st week of 2014 and it feels different to the beginning of other years, I am determined that 2014 is the year I make changes and form new habits.

studying
 – I normally just read what I need to for my essays and don’t really make any notes, however this causes mass panic when it comes to revising so this week I have sat down and actually read and make notes on the chapters, it felt a lot more like studying and  less like panic however my essay is due in on Wednesday and I seriously worry I am going to run out of time but I am going to stick with it and continue note taking. I would like to have a draft or at least a plan with references written by Tuesday morning when my mum picks up T so I can sit a write it all up.

Money It seems that because my wages have stopped now until I go back to work in March loads of expenses have cropped up, both my car tax and MOT are due in February and nursery fees will be due in march I think this is annoying me more as I don’t yet have a driving license so it feels like paying out for something I can’t use. I put my next door neighbour on the insurance so she can take me out to get some experience but the weather has been so awful we have not been out as much as I would have liked. Normally I would have just put the expenses on the credit card but this time I am trying to avoid doing that so I spent yesterday listing things on e-bay which leads nicely onto.

de cluttering / organisation we live in a 2 bed flat with limited storage, I suddenly looked around the place with fresh eyes yesterday and saw how much space I waste with things that never get used. there were shoes in the cupboard I brought 3 years ago that have never been worn. So yesterday I sat down and listed 19 items on e-bay and there are more to be added, part of me was tempted to just box everything up  for the charity shop however at the moment I need the extra money, and not having to keep trying to find space will also be helpful.

I know everything is not going to be perfect over night but I feel like I am going in the right direction, and it feels really good to be making some changes.

I am off to make breakfast and sit down with a uni book while its nice a quiet, enjoy your Sunday and feel free to go buy my stuff

taking stock – financial goals

Standard

I am determined that this year I am going to seriously tackle my debt and start saving, My debts are not massive compared to some people however I  am conscious that they are there and they stop me doing things like

  • saving towards a house deposit
  • going on a decent holiday
  • shopping for new clothes without feeling guilty

choosing to work part time when I finish maternity leave in March also means I will be on a reduced income so I need to get back to being more thrifty with my money I have got very lax with things like food shopping and buying coffee out so i need to start keeping a spending diary I am toying with doing a weekly or fortnightly post about my spending more to keep myself accountable than because I think anyone wants to see it

I have also made a list of all the things I don’t use so I will be taking advantage of the free e-bay listings to hopefully get rid of them, I am not fussed about getting loads for them I just want to have less stuff around and if I can make a few £s then that’s great.

I am also going to be making more of an effort to batch cook and meal plan so I’m not tempted to go out for dinner, we seem to keep finding ourselves in the local wetherpersons which isn’t expensive but it is still a lot more than cooking at home and I actually really enjoy cooking. The plan is to have a very frugal January and then going forward maybe to add a section to the budget for treats out.

At the moment I owe £3500 in an ideal world I would like that amount to be 0 by the end of the year wish me luck

thinking about the new year

Standard

I always find myself feeling a little bit down at this time of year, i have an idea in my head of how I want Christmas too be and the reality never quite lives up to my expectations it also reminds me that there are loads of things I had hoped to change over the previous year that are still the same.

This year I am determined to set some goals and make some changes so I can get the most out of 2014

Time Management

I really struggle to organise my time and its something i really want to get on top of this year, I now know exactly what days and hours I will be at work when I go back at the beginning of march. I am toying with the idea of sending t to nursery for an extra morning or afternoon on one of the days I am not at work so I can do uni work however my mum has said she would like to have him one day a week, but at the moment that isn’t happening so I need to talk to her and get some dates written down.

I need to find some sort of planner / diary that works for me and allows me to get the most out of my time, so that we can enjoy proper quality family time when Sam is home.

meal planning

I often find myself trying to work out what i want for dinner way after i should be eating it and often skip lunch, this is something i would like to stop and I am going to look at having a more structured meal plan and using the slow cooker on days that I am at work. I am also going to make more of an effort to eat lunch and if I am heading out to take food with me. I often don’t buy nice foods for cooking lunch at home because of the cost but then I end up spending several pounds on a sandwich which defeats the point.

housework

I have moaned about this constantly but I hate the state my flat seems to be all of the time i am naturally a very untitdy person and i really dont like it. I feel a lot calmer and more in control when things are nice and tidy. so i would like to work on finding a cleaning schedule that suits me and that I can keep up with. Having a nice clean home will also make me feel comfortable inviting people over for drinks

I’ll let you know how I get on do you have any goals for 2014?
